Rona: In grand moments, high up
Line of Events
After living on the outskirts of London, Rona tries to come to terms with her troubled past. In the hope of healing, she returns to the wild beauty of the Orkney Islands, Scotland, where she grew up. It is the first time that the film Papa Westray was filmed on the Orkney Islands. fresh air and freedom on the mountain, I study my own personal geology.
My body is a continent
I grind my teeth in my sleep like tectonic plates. And when I blink, the sun flashes. My breath pushes clouds across the sky and the waves roll in time with my beating heart. The headlands of the islands rise above the sea like my limbs in a bathtub.
Lightning strikes every time I sneeze
My freckles are famous landmarks and my tears, rivers. And when I orgasm, there is an earthquake. One With the Wind was composed by John Gürtler and Jan Miserre. This film deftly takes the viewer on a journey of loss and addiction and back again in two intertwined stories – past and present, which slide side by side, each revealing itself bit by bit.
Finally, the setting
Saoirse Ronan’s performance embraces both stories with complete conviction. She is ably supported by a small but excellent cast. At times you could believe you were watching a ‘fly on the wall’ documentary, the characters were so effortlessly real, playing the roles of London and Orkney. The parents were particularly well played.
Orkney in winter contributed so much drama and atmosphere
