You don’t really empathize with his plight

An anthology series about high-profile crimes or murderers who attracted public attention and became famous. Evan Peters [Jeffrey Dahmer] says that they had one rule that they followed from [creator] Ryan Murphy, starting with the series: It would never be told from Dahmer’s point of view. “As a viewer, you don’t really sympathize with him. You rather watch it, you know, from the side.” The 3M Command™ strip is shown in the kitchen of Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment in many episodes, the last action taking place in 1991.

3M debuted its first wave of Command™ products in 1996. There are two monsters in this heartbreaking and exciting story, but it’s not Eric (Cooper Koch) and Lyle (Nicolas Alexander Chavez), it’s Jose (Javier Bardem) and Kitty (Chloe Savigny). I do not want to delve too deeply into the legal aspects of this case, because this is not a documentary, but a drama series. However, let me start by saying that if Eric and Lyle were Erica and Lyle—two daughters—they would never have spent a day in jail.

He was a kind of straight Truman Capote

This does not mean that Eric and Lyle were blameless, but the mitigating circumstances were so overwhelming and convincing that they should have been sentenced to 10 years in prison for premeditated murder. Then there’s Dominic Dunne (Nathan Lane), a mean man who traded gossip and cocktail parties with celebrities. I want to single out episode 5 of The Hurt Man. There are only two characters in the entire wall: Leslie Abramson (Eri Gaynor) and Eric.

Director Michael Appendahl places the camera about 12 feet from the table where the two are sitting. Slowly, imperceptibly, the camera moves in on Eric until it pans past Abramson and ends with a close-up of Eric as he explains the title of the episode. Fascinating! Cooper Koch does a tremendous job throughout the episode, but especially in this episode.

Nicolas Chavez is also great as Lyle

Javier Bardem and Chloe Savigny are outstanding in the roles of Jose and Kitty.
