Segel told Goldstein that he at least had to pitch it to Ford first, figuring he would turn it down right away, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been brought onto the project, generating interest from other top actors. This is pure, hard-core fun
Crisp, excellent writing, enough pathos to keep it from becoming The Big Bang Theory for the middle grades, it’s a joy to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like this, but anyone with a functioning brain cell would know that, so criticism from this perspective is simply negativity for the sake of pulling down ratings. Are some of the characters stereotypes?
After all, who knew what light comedy actor Harrison Ford was?
Yes, but don’t be offended and you shouldn’t take anything from it – FYI, I worked with a gay guy who was exactly the stereotype portrayed here. The real success here is combining the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, stages and lifestyles and making it funny. A complete eye-opener and worth watching the show just for him.
